The milonga is a folkloric musical genre from Rio de la Plata, typical of Argentina and Uruguay. The genre comes from the gaucho culture. In binary time, but often with a guitar accompaniment in 6/8. It is presented in two modalities, the milonga campera, pampeana or surera (belonging to the so-called surera or sureña music), which is the original form of the milonga; and the citizen milonga, a late form created in 1931 by Sebastián Piana with "Milonga sentimental".
