Mambo is a musical and dance genre that was originally developed in Cuba. The word "mambo" is an Afro-blackness, similar to other African-American musical terms such as conga, milonga, bomba, tumba, samba, bamba, bambulá, tambo, tango, cumbé, cumbia and candombe, which denote an African origin, and particularly Congolese, due to the presence of certain characteristic combinations of sounds, such as "mb", "ng" and "nd", which belong to the Niger-Congo linguistic complex.1 In modern Swahili, the word "mambo" corresponds to the Spanish words "cosas" or "objetos". The Oxford En-Linea Dictionary says that "Mambo" is the Haitian Creole word for a "Voodoo priestess."
